If you are an aspiring graphic novelist the perfect way to get started is by making short comics. Do you have an original story to tell? Looking for a chance to have your work in print? Then this year’s Observer/Faber graphic short story prize may be the perfect opportunity for you. The first prize is £1,000 and the publication of your four-page story in the Observer New Review. The runner-up will receive £250 and your work will appear on theguardian.com.
You need to write and draw a four-page comic, designed to run over a double-page spread in the Observer New Review – a story that will ideally have a beginning, a middle and an end. The competition is open to anyone aged sixteen and over who is a resident of the UK or the Republic of Ireland. The deadline for submission is September 18th, 2023. The winning entrant and runner-up will be notified by email in early January 2024.
